"As your legislator, I will work hard to listen, learn and act on what's important to you."

Hello Friends!

My name is Mary Ann Folchert and I’m running for state legislature because I want better representation – for myself, my family, my neighbors, and my community. I’m frustrated by lawmakers who push partisan agendas over the common good of our communities. I invite you to learn more about me and to join my campaign.

I’ve been a Nebraskan for most of my life. I was born in Texas, adopted as a newborn, and was raised in Omaha where my father worked in agricultural sales and my mother was a stay-at-home mom and dedicated community volunteer. At the time, my only other sibling was my older brother, Jim, who has intellectual disabilities. Later, two more brothers were added to the mix. I graduated from Westside High School in 1992, and attended Miami University (in Ohio) where I earned a degree in Elementary and Special Education. I returned to Omaha and accepted a teaching job in the same public school district I attended as a student. While teaching, I took night classes and obtained a Master’s degree in Resource Teaching and Learning Disabilities from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. It was through teaching that I met my husband, Daren. We were married in the same church I attended as a child. Our first home was within walking distance of the school where we both taught. When it came time to start our family, I resigned from teaching to focus full time on raising our children while also volunteering in the schools, church, and community.

Nebraska is a great place to call home, but political polarization threatens the good life we have here. Now more than ever, Nebraskans need sensible, honest, and open-minded lawmakers who will work together to create legislation that reflects the needs of our communities. As your legislator, I will work hard to listen, learn, and act on what’s important to you.
